Doug Danger began his motorcycle daredevil career
back in
1979 when
he jumped 10 cars in Palmer, Massachusetts and he hasn't stopped yet.
Danger went on to break Evel Knievel's longest car jump , by clearing
20 in Toronto, Canada in 1989. After that, Doug was determined to hold
the record for the longest motorcycle ramp-to-ramp jump.
In 1990, Doug sat another American record for
250cc bikes, by jumping
25 cars at a total of 181 feet.
In 1991, Doug broke the
longest ramp-to-ramp jump by an American, by clearing 38 cars at a total
distance of 251 feet at
the New Hampshire International Speedway, Loudon Massachusetts. This
record was also held as a world record for over 9 years.
In 1992, Doug was going to have a jump off competition
with Robbie Knievel, but that never happened. Doug suffered a
horrible accident while jumping 11 cars, three
shows prior to his scheduled jump-off. He suffered 17 broken bones and
was in a coma for over a month. It took over three years to regain his
memory. Eddie Kidd took Doug's place in the jump-off with Knievel.
Doug didn't let the accident stop him. In 1993, he was back on his bike
and jumping. Each year more shows and farther jumps. Danger has even
gone on to jump over 25
automobiles again! On
October 10, 1999, Doug
broke Robbie Knievel's
17 semi-truck record by one truck
in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On
March 18, 2000, Doug
Danger jumped an
L-1011 Jumbo Jet wing tip-to- wing tip. The
jump was filmed for the "I Dare You" television show. The
jump was 160'
across. The takeoff ramp was 4
feet
wide and 20 feet high. The fuselage of the plane was 27 feet off the
ground. Doug had to reach a height of 30 feet in the air. The picture
below was taken by
Doug Klang.
